Wim Van Hasselt, Trumpet
Jörgen van Rijen, Trombone

In a diverse programme featuring music that spans several centuries, the versatility and ambiguous character of this interesting combination of instruments can be heard - both musicians exploring a rich palette of tone colours, while searching the boundaries of the (im)possible. The alliance formed between the soprano of the trumpet and the tenor of the trombone is superb.

The name 'Tintomara', which features as both Ensemble and CD name refers to a composition of the same name by Folke Rabes: the dualistic figure from 'Törnrosens bok' by the Swedish author Jonas Love Almqvist reflects the male and female characters of both instruments. Thus inspired, the ensemble has developed manifold arrangements, solo pieces and duets into an unusual, contrasting and surprising programme.

Jörgen van Rijen is currently principal trombonist with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchester Amsterdam.
